“I have known Sárán since 2021, when he joined the Belfast hub of my Arts Council of Northern Ireland-funded Jazz Juniors programme following nationwide auditions of talented under-18s. I found him to be enthusiastic, hardworking, and always willing to try new, challenging directions, and I was not surprised to see the rapid development of his already clear musical talent. He is a natural student of music, a multi-instrumentalist whose talent extends to Irish traditional music and songwriting. Locally in Armagh, he has made contributions to the community through the Aonacha Mhacha cultural centre, and I have been impressed to learn about his creation and adaptation of musical instruments.”” - David Lyttle

SARAN

Weaving the roots of irish folk with tinges of american blues

SARAN is a folk and Americana singer-songwriter from Tullysaran, County Armagh, whose music combines Irish storytelling with the soul of country, the warmth of Americana, and the grit of the blues. Drawing inspiration from artists such as John Prine, Doc Watson, and Van Morrison, his songs explore themes of love, loss, return, and the shared experiences that connect us all.

A performer for over fifteen years, SARAN has built a reputation for the intimacy of his live shows and the energy he and his band bring to the stage. He has performed throughout Ireland, Europe, and the United States, appearing in Lopera, Berlin, New York, Dublin, and Belfast. His performance credits include sold-out shows and productions at renowned venues such as the Grand Opera House Belfast, the Black Box, the Market Place Theatre, and most recently a sold-out performance at Abbey Lane Theatre in Armagh with his blues band, The Boogie Monsters.

SARAN's musical experience spans live performance, studio recording, pit work, and music education. His original material draws on personal experiences, observations of the modern world, and the stories of those he encounters along the way. His music has received airplay on Dundalk FM and continues to resonate with audiences through its honesty, authenticity, and storytelling.

His achievements include Gold at the Armagh County Fleadh, Silver at the Ulster Fleadh, and qualification for the All-Ireland Fleadh on saxophone. He was awarded Senior Traditional Musician of the Year in consecutive years at St. Patrick's Grammar School and was named Student of the Year by the Southern Regional College Music Department in 2025. During his studies, he helped raise more than £4,500 to support a performance and recording project in Berlin.

Committed to artistic growth, SARAN has been mentored by Gareth Dunlop, Matt McGinn, Ciaran Lavery, Matt Curran, and Brian Finnegan. Alongside performing with six musical projects, he teaches aspiring musicians through Baker Street School of Music.

Following the completion of his ambitious trilogy of EPs — Roots, Branches, and Leaves — recorded over just nineteen weeks, SARAN is preparing to release three new EPs that further showcase his distinctive blend of folk, Americana, country, and blues. Rooted in authenticity and driven by a passion for storytelling, he continues to create music that speaks to both the personal and the universal.
